OUR PROGRAMS

DISABILITY SUPPORT SERVICES

Empowering people with disability to live the life they choose

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

What this program is

Nawiri Disability Support Services is built on one belief: every person with disability has the right to set their own goals, make their own choices, and live a life of meaning and connection.

We exist to close a specific gap in South Australia. There is a real shortage of culturally safe and linguistically accessible disability support for NDIS participants from migrant and refugee backgrounds, and a broader shortage of relationship-based support for people with complex needs. We are working toward registration with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission so we can deliver funded supports.

WHO IT IS FOR

Who we work with

  • NDIS participants living across Greater Adelaide

  • People from migrant and refugee backgrounds facing language and cultural barriers

  • People with complex support needs, including psychosocial disability, acquired brain injury and multiple diagnoses

  • Children, working-age adults and older participants

WHAT WE OFFER

How the program works

Daily activities

Assistance with personal care, meal preparation, household management and medication, delivered in your own home.

Community participation

Support to get out, take part in social, recreational and economic life, and build connections that last.

Support coordination

Help to understand and use your NDIS plan, connect with services, and build the confidence to direct your own supports.

Capacity building

Supports that grow your skills and independence over time, toward the goals you set.

Group programs

Structured activities that build skills and social connection in a culturally inclusive setting.

CULTURAL SAFETY

How we make it work for you

  • Support workers who speak your language.

  • Cultural matching between participants and workers wherever possible

  • Professional interpreters for assessments, planning meetings and key sessions

  • Respect for cultural norms, religious practice, gender preference, dietary needs and family structure

  • Family involved in planning where you want them to be

CULTURAL SAFETY

How we make it work for you

  • Your own home, for most daily living and personal care supports

  • Community settings across Adelaide, including centres, libraries and recreational facilities

  • Our Wayville office, for coordination meetings, planning and group programs

  • Partner organisation sites, for joint delivery with health and allied health services
