OUR PROGRAMS

NAWIRI FAMILY CONNECT

Strengthening families, protecting children, building futures

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

What this program is

Nawiri Family Connect is a community-based family support and early intervention program. It works to strengthen families under pressure, reduce the risk of child protection involvement, and help children grow up safe, loved and connected.

The program runs on a simple principle: families are the experts on their own lives. We work alongside parents and caregivers, not above them, providing practical help, information and connection in a way that builds capacity and keeps families together wherever it is safe to do so.

WHO IT IS FOR

Who we work with

  • Families with children aged 0 to 17 experiencing vulnerability or at risk of crisis

  • Families from migrant and refugee backgrounds navigating the Australian family and child protection system

  • Families experiencing or recovering from domestic and family violence

  • Families living in poverty or housing stress

  • Single-parent families with limited support networks

  • Families where a parent or child has a disability or mental health condition

WHAT WE OFFER

How the program works

Intensive family support

An allocated family support worker, regular home visits, collaborative goal setting and coordination with schools, health services and other agencies. Up to twelve months, with a planned step-down.

Practical family support

Help with daily parenting tasks and routines, access to food, clothing and essentials, accompaniment to appointments, and transport for families without a car.

Group parenting programs

Culturally adapted parenting education in community settings, peer support groups including language-specific groups, school holiday programs, and fathers groups.

Information and navigation

Knowing your rights and entitlements, help with Centrelink, housing, legal aid and health, and warm referrals to specialist services with follow-up to make sure they worked.

CULTURAL SAFETY

How we make it work for you
